Myth: The runway isn’t long enough for large planes.
Truth: The runway is long enough for large commercial planes and large cargo planes. Shreveport Regional Airport has recently gained the business of Western Global Airlines, a cargo freight carrier with large cargo planes, who uses converted passenger planes that formerly held 350+ passengers.
Myth: Shreveport Regional Airport doesn’t have jet bridges.
Truth: Each of the four airlines at the airport lease a gate that has a jet bridge. In the event that your flight doesn’t board or deplane via a jet bridge, the airline has chosen not to use the jet bridge.
Myth: Shreveport Regional Airport sets the flight ticket prices.
Truth: The airlines set the airfare prices and the prices are dependent on the level of competition between other airlines in the area.
Myth: Shreveport Regional Airport has few airlines because they do not make an effort to bring in new airlines.
Truth: Shreveport Regional Airport management meets with airlines multiple times throughout the year in an effort to bring in new airlines to increase competition and non-stop destinations. Shreveport Regional Airport is also working on making improvements to the airport facility to help entice airlines to come to Shreveport. Airport management also works closely with the Ark-La-Tex Regional Air Service Alliance in offering financial incentives to airlines in order to launch new service.
Myth: Shreveport Regional Airport has control over delayed or canceled flights
Truth: Shreveport Regional Airport has no control over flight delays and cancelations. Each airline in is control of their flights and based on weather, air traffic congestion and mechanical issues, delayed or canceled flight could occur.
Myth: Shreveport Regional Airport has control over the TSA department operating in the airport.
Truth: Shreveport Regional Airport has no control over the TSA operating in the airport, but we do work with the TSA to help address any complaints or resolve any issues.
Myth: Shreveport Regional Airport has control over the individual airlines.
Truth: Each of the airlines, similar to retail stores at a mall, are tenants of the airport. Shreveport Regional Airport works closely with the individual airlines to ensure customer satisfaction, but we have no control over how each individual airline operates.
Myth: Shreveport Regional Airport has control over baggage tracking and loss
Truth: Shreveport Regional Airport has no control over how baggage is handled at the airport, as this is the responsibility of each individual airline. We do work closely with airlines to ensure that any customer complaints regarding baggage loss claims are addressed quickly.
Myth: Flights are typically empty or not very full.
Truth: The majority of flights at the Shreveport Regional Airport range from 70% full to 95% full, depending on the airline and season.
Frequently Asked Questions
How early before my flight should I arrive?
Flyers should arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before flight is scheduled to depart. The security checkpoint is opened at 4AM each day.
Can I park curbside?
No, customers cannot park curbside for longer than a few moments to drop off or pick up flyers. This is a Federal Aviation guideline to which all airports must comply.
What are the size restrictions for check in and carry-on baggage?
Size dimensions of all baggage varies by airline. Please reach out to your chosen airline or visit their website to find baggage restriction information.
Will I be patted down or wanded during the security check?
Each passenger is subject to being patted down or wanded by security checkpoint employee and at airline boarding gates.
Do I need to bring identification?
Yes, expect your valid photo ID to be check at multiple points during the flight process. No expired driver’s licenses are permitted.
What is advanced imaging technology?
Advanced imaging technology safely screens passengers without physical contact for both metallic and non-metallic threats, including weapons and explosives, which may be concealed under a passenger’s clothing.
